WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Toyota Camry. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH)
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition C1-1 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTPUT SIGNAL)
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition C1-4 (B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
NG → See step 5
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Shift Lever Position Specified Condition 4 - 9 P or N Below 1 Ω Except P and N 10 Ω or higher 1 - 2 R Below 1 Ω Except R 10 Ω or higher 1 - 7 D, S, "+" or "-" Below 1 Ω Except D, S, "+" and "-" 10 Ω or higher
NG → See step 7
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - TCM)
- Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Disconnect the TCM connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.
Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Shift Lever Position Specified Condition C63-15 (R) - Body ground R 11 to 14 V* Except R Below 1 V C63-16 (D) - Body ground D, S, "+" or "-" 11 to 14 V Except D, S, "+" and "-" Below 1 V HINT:
*: The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up light.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK → See step 6
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - TCM)
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Disconnect the TCM connector.
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition C1-4 (B) - C63-11 (NSW) Always Below 1 Ω Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition C1-4 (B) or C63-11 (NSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK → See step 6
- REPLACE TCM. Refer to REMOVAL
- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to REMOVAL
