DTC P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List.
    5. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.
    6. Crank the engine.
    7. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Standard
      Starter Signal ignition switch ON OFF
      Starter Signal Engine is cranking ON

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      NG A
      OK B

    B → See step   3 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Shift Lever Position Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 9 (L) P Below 1 Ω
      N Below 1 Ω
      Except P and N 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (RB) - 9 (L) P 10 kΩ or higher
      R 10 kΩ or higher
      N 10 kΩ or higher
      D 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK TCM (STA VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the TCM connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C63-10 (STA) - Body ground ignition switch ON and shift lever in P or N Below 2 V
      ignition switch ON and shift lever not in P or N Below 1 V

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → See step   4 

  4. REPLACE TCM. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the TCM connector.

    2. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block.
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C63-10 (STA) - Body ground ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  6. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. CHECK STARTER SIGNAL CIRCUIT. Refer to  Starter Signal Circuit
