DTC P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input): Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E4-1 (RB) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E4-4 (B) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (to Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Shift Lever Position Specified Condition
      E4-4 (B) - E4-9 (L) P or N Below 1 Ω
      Except P and N 10 kΩ or higher
      E4-1 (RB) - E4-2 (RL) R Below 1 Ω
      Except R 10 kΩ or higher
      E4-1 (RB) - E4-7 (DL) D, S, "+" or "-" Below 1 Ω
      Except D, S, "+" and "-" 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - TCM) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch Assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the TCM connectors.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Shift Lever Position Specified Condition
      E7-15 (R) - Body ground R 11 to 14 V*
      Except R Below 1 V
      E7-16 (D) - Body ground D, S, "+" or "-" 11 to 14 V
      Except D, S, "+" and "-" Below 1 V

      (to TCM)

      HINT: 

      *: The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up light.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   6 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - TCM) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the TCM connector.
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch Assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E4-4 (B) - E7-11 (NSW) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E4-4 (B) or E7-11 (NSW) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   6 

  6. REPLACE TCM. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  7. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS
