Fuel Receiver Gauge Malfunction: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge Empty, 1/2, Full -

      OK

      Fuel receiver gauge indication is normal.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input/Min.: 0, Max.: 127.5 Fuel receiver gauge indicates F: 57.0 Unit: Liter
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 3/4: 48.3
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/2: 32.2
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/4: 16.1
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates E: 6.4

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the fuel receiver gauge indication. A
      Fuel level data displayed on the Techstream differs from the fuel receiver gauge indication. B

    B → See step   5 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the I18 combination meter assembly and N11 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I18-18 (FR) - N11-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      I18-18 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      I18-17 (FE) - N11-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      I18-17 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL for 2AR-FE. Refer to REMOVAL for 2GR-FE).
    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to INSPECTION for 2AR-FE. Refer to INSPECTION for 2GR-FE).

      Result

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
