Fuel Economy Meter Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      Result

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL CONSUMPTION METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Consumption Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge MIN, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, MAX -

      OK

      Needle indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED, INJECTION VOLUM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for ABS/VSC/TRAC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
      2. for Engine and ECT: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      • Idling (engine warmed up): 0.108 ml
      • Running without load (3000 rpm): 0.097 ml

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      • When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the skid control ECU or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

  4. REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the brake actuator assembly with a new or a known good one. Refer to REMOVAL .

  5. REPLACE ECM 
    1. Replace the ECM with a new or a known good one. Refer to REMOVAL for 2AR-FE. Refer to REMOVAL for 2GR-FE).

  6. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. GO TO SFI SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  9. GO TO SFI SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  10. GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
