DTC B1620/21: Side Airbag Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly, side airbag sensor RH and rear airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly, side airbag sensor RH and rear airbag sensor RH.
    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Using SST, connect terminals 8 (BBR+) and 11 (BBR-) of connector B.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector.

      • SST: 09843-18040 
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BBR+) - M7-3 (BBR-) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect SST from connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BBR+) - M7-3 (BBR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      M7-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      M7-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Using SST, connect terminals 2 (BCR+) and 1 (BCR-) of connector C.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector.

      • SST: 09843-18040 
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-1 (BCR+) - M7-2 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect SST from connector C.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-1 (BCR+) - M7-2 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M7-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      M7-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      M7-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor RH.

    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory . Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs . Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1620/21 is output. A
      DTC B1625/22 is output. B
      DTC B1620/21 and B1625/22 are not output. C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1620/21 and B1625/22 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    C → See step   12 

    B → See step   13 

    A: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Return the side airbag sensors LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors.
    4. Disconnect the connector from the rear airbag sensor RH.
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory . Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    10. Check for DTCs . Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1620/21 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1620/21 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   14 

    OK → See step   15 

  12. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  13. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  14. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  15. REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL
