DTC P0014: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1); DTC P0015: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1): Procedure

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Turn the Techstream on.
4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
5. Read the DTCs.

   Result

   Result	Proceed to
   DTC P0014 or P0015 is output	A
   DTC P0014 or P0015 and other DTCs are output	B

   HINT: 

   If any DTCs other than P0014 or P0015 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

A: Go to next step 

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Start the engine.
3. Turn the Techstream on.
4. Turn the A/C switch to ON.
5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1).
6. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) using the Techstream.

   Result

   Techstream Operation	Specified Condition
   0% (OFF)	Normal engine speed
   127% (ON)	Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after camshaft timing oil control valve assembly switched from OFF to ON)

   HINT: 

   If the result is not acceptable, cool the engine and perform the Active Test again.

7. Start the engine when the engine coolant temperature is 30°C (86°F) or less.
8. Turn the Techstream on.
9. Turn the A/C switch to ON.
10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1).
11. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) using the Techstream with the engine coolant temperature is 50°C (122°F) or less.

    Result

    0% (OFF)	Normal engine speed
    127% (ON)	Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after camshaft timing oil control valve assembly switched from OFF to ON)

NG → See step   5 

OK: Go to next step 

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Turn the Techstream on.
4. Clear DTCs . Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
5. Start the engine and warm it up.
6. Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes or more.
7. Drive the vehicle for more than 10 minutes.
8. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes / Pending.
9. Read the DTCs.

   Result

   Result	Proceed to
   DTC is not output	A
   DTC P0014 or P0015 is output	B

1. Remove the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) . Refer to REMOVAL .

2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

   Standard Resistance

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   1 - 2	20°C (68°F)	6.9 to 7.9 Ω

3. Apply the positive battery voltage to terminal 1 and negative battery voltage to terminal 2. Check the valve operation.

   OK

   Valve moves quickly.

4. Reinstall the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) . Refer to INSTALLATION .

NG → See step   11 

OK: Go to next step 

1. Inspect the camshaft timing gear assembly (for exhaust camshaft) . Refer to REMOVAL .

NG → See step   13 

OK: Go to next step 

1. Remove the oil control valve filter . Refer to DISASSEMBLY .

2. Check that the filter is not clogged.

   OK

   Filter is not clogged.

3. Reinstall the oil control valve filter . Refer to REASSEMBLY .

NG → See step   12 

OK: Go to next step 

HINT: 

There are no marks on the cylinder head to match-up for the purpose of checking valve timing. Valve timing can only be inspected by lining up the colored plates on the timing chain with the marks on the pulleys. It may be necessary to remove and reinstall the chain to match-up the alignment marks . Refer to DISASSEMBLY .
