Transmission Wire: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  3. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 47 N*m (479 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf) 

  4. REMOVE BATTERY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSPECTION )
  7. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 18 bolts, oil pan and gasket.
      NOTE: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan. Carefully remove the oil pan.
    2. Remove the 3 magnets from the oil pan.

    3. Examine particles in the pan.
      1. Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets. Look carefully at the chips and particles in the pan and on the magnets to see the type of wear which might be found in the transaxle.

        Result: 

        Steel (magnetic): 

        bearing, gear and plate wear 

        Brass (non-magnetic): 

        bushing wear 

  8. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the transmission wire from the 5 shift solenoid valve connectors.
    2. Remove the bolt, lock plate and ATF temperature sensor.
    3. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    4. Remove the bolt and transmission wire.

    5. Remove the O-ring from the transmission wire.
