On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER 
    1. Check operation.
      1. Using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer), check the speedometer indication according to the table below.

        Reference: mph (for U.S.A.)

        20 20.0 to 23.0
        40 40.0 to 43.5
        60 60.0 to 64.0
        80 80.0 to 84.5
        100 100.0 to 105.0
        120 120.0 to 125.5
        140 140.0 to 146.0

        Reference: km/h (except for U.S.A.)

        180 179.0 to 188.0
        200 199.0 to 209.0
        220 219.0 to 230.0
        240 239.0 to 251.0
        NOTE: Tire wear as well as over or under inflation will cause errors.
      2. Check the deviation of the speedometer from the acceptable range.

        Reference: 

        Less than 0.5 km/h (0.3 mph) 

        HINT:

        If the indication is not as specified, go to Problem Symptoms Table (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).

  2. INSPECT TACHOMETER 
    1. Check the operation.
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Start the engine.
      3. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List" (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).

      4. Compare the engine speed displayed on the Techstream with the tachometer reading.
