STEERING GEAR (for 1AR-FE): Installation

  1. INSTALL TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Install the lock nut and the tie rod assembly LH to the steering rack end sub-assembly until the matchmarks are aligned.

      HINT:

      After adjusting the toe-in, torque the lock nut.

  2. INSTALL TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  3. INSTALL POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Insert the power steering link assembly from the left side of the vehicle while lifting the front stabilizer bar with bracket.
    2. Install the power steering link assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 70 N*m (713 kgf*cm, 51 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Make sure to tighten the bolts starting from the left side of the vehicle.
      • Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Tighten the bolt with the nut secured.
  4. TEMPORARILY INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER BAR WITH BRACKET 
    1. Temporarily install the front stabilizer bar with bracket.

  5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET LH 
    1. Install the front No. 1 stabilizer bracket LH.

      Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) 

  6. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  7. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Connect the tie rod assembly LH to the steering knuckle with the nut.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Install a new cotter pin.
      NOTE: Further tighten the nut up to 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.

  8. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  9. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

  10. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Install the front stabilizer link assembly LH.

      Torque: 74 N*m (755 kgf*cm, 55 ft.*lbf) 

  11. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  12. INSTALL FRONT WHEELS 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  13. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  14. INSTALL FLOOR UNDER COVER LH 
  15. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
  16. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
  17. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT 

    HINT:
