Inspection Procedure
HINT:
- If no problem is found through this diagnostic troubleshooting procedure, there may be a mechanical problem with the engine.
- Check the engine speed. The engine speed can be checked by using the Techstream. To check, follow the procedure below:
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Start the engine.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine/Data List/All Data/Engine Speed.
The engine speed may be indicated as zero despite the crankshaft revolving normally. This is caused by a lack of NE signals from the crankshaft position sensor. Alternatively, the engine speed may be indicated as less than the actual engine speed if the crankshaft position sensor output voltage is insufficient.
- Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine/Data List/All Data/Engine Speed.
- Start the engine.
- Read the values displayed on the Techstream while the engine is running.
OK:
Correct values are displayed.
HINT:
- To check the engine speed change, display the graph on the Techstream.
- If the engine does not start, check the engine speed while cranking.
- If the engine speed indicated on the Techstream remains at zero (0), there may be an open or short in the crankshaft position sensor circuit.
NG: Go to step 2
OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS )
- INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (RESISTANCE)
- Inspect the crankshaft position sensor (See INSPECTION
).
NG: REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (See INSPECTION )
OK: Go to next step
- Inspect the crankshaft position sensor (See INSPECTION
).
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM)
- Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

- Reconnect the ECM connector.

OK: Go to next step
- CHECK SENSOR INSTALLATION (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)
- Check the crankshaft position sensor installation.
OK:
Sensor is installed correctly.
NG: SECURELY REINSTALL SENSOR (See INSPECTION )

OK: Go to next step
- Check the crankshaft position sensor installation.
- INSPECT CRANK ANGLE SENSOR PLATE (TEETH OF SENSOR PLATE)
- Check the teeth of the crank angle sensor plate.
OK:
Crank angle sensor plate does not have any cracks or deformation.
NG: REPLACE CRANKSHAFT (See REMOVAL )
OK: Go to next step
- Check the teeth of the crank angle sensor plate.
- REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
- Replace the crankshaft position sensor (See INSPECTION ).
- CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Start the engine.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine/Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTCs.
Result
RESULT CHARTResult Proceed to DTC is not output A DTC P0335 or P0339 is output B HINT:
If the engine does not start, replace the ECM.
B: REPLACE ECM (See REMOVAL )
A: REPAIR COMPLETED
