Brake Fluid: Replacement

HINT:

If any work is performed on the brake system or if air in the brake lines is suspected, bleed the brake system.

NOTE:

Move the shift lever to P and apply the parking brake before bleeding the brakes.
Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.
If brake fluid leaks onto any painted surface, immediately wash it off.

REMOVE CENTER COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER
1. Slide the hood to cowl top seal and disengage the clip as shown in the illustration.

2. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the center cowl top ventilator louver.

FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID
1. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  Brake Fluid: SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3
  
  NOTE: Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

BLEED BRAKE LINE
NOTE:
- Bleed the brake line of the wheel farthest from the master cylinder first.
- Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.
1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.
2. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed*1.
3. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal*2.
4. Repeat *1 and *2 until all the air in the fluid is completely bled out.
5. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.
  Torque: Front bleeder plug
  
  8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
  
  Rear bleeder plug (for Drum Brake)
  
  8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf)
  
  Rear bleeder plug (for Disc Brake)
  
  10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)
6. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.
INSPECT FLUID LEVEL (See BRAKE FLUID )
INSPECT FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAK
INSTALL CENTER COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER
1. Engage the 5 claws to install the center cowl top ventilator louver.

2. Push and engage the clip, and slide and engage the claw of the hood to cowl top seal as shown in the illustration.
