Inspection Procedure

HINT:

If there is an open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit, the ECM outputs the DTCs. Perform troubleshooting with the SFI System (See DTC P0115 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION; DTC P0117 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT LOW INPUT; DTC P0118 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT (for 2AZ-FE), DTC P0115 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION; DTC P0117 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT LOW INPUT; DTC P0118 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT (for 2ZR-FE)).

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
    1. Check if CAN communication DTC is output (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

      Result Proceed to
CAN communication DTC is not output. A
CAN communication DTC Is output. B

B: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

      A: Go to next step

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE METER OPERATION)
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the values in the table below.

      OK:

      Gauge indication is normal.

NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER  (See REMOVAL )

      OK: Go to next step

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMPERATURE)
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the values in the table below.
