Front Passenger Airbag Assembly: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing (See AIRBAG SYSTEM ).
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
  3. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag)  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag)  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side (See REMOVAL ).

  13. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag)  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  18. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side (See REMOVAL ).

  19. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  20. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  22. REMOVE NO. 3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  23. REMOVE NO. 4 INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION (for TMC Made)  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  24. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Lean the instrument panel as shown the illustration and disengage the 5 hooks.

    3. Disengage the 5 hooks and remove the front passenger airbag assembly from the instrument panel as shown in the illustration.

  25. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped with protective tape, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the clamp.
      NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    2. Remove the clamp and instrument panel wire assembly from the front passenger airbag assembly.
