Transmission Control Cable: Removal

  1. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH  (See REMOVAL )
  2. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE CENTER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
  13. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  15. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 3 nuts and the front No. 1 floor heat insulator.
  17. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Move the shift lever to N.

    2. Disconnect the end of the transmission control cable assembly from the shift lever assembly.

    3. Using a screwdriver, pull out the stopper of the transmission control cable.
      NOTE: Do not remove the stopper. If the stopper is removed, reinstall it to its original position.
    4. Rotate the nut counterclockwise approximately 180°, and while holding the nut in place, disconnect the transmission control cable from the shift lever retainer.
      NOTE: Do not over-rotate the nut as it will come off the internal spring and the transmission control cable will not be reusable.

    5. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control cable bracket.
    6. Remove the nut and transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.

    7. Remove the nut and separate the transmission control cable assembly support from the rear engine mounting insulator.

    8. Remove the 2 nuts and separate the transmission control cable assembly from the body.
    9. Pull out the transmission control cable assembly from the body.
