Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Check the output waveform.
      1. Remove the combination meter assembly with connector(s) still connected.
      2. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals F2-12 (+S) and body ground.
      3. Ignition switch on (IG).
      4. Turn the wheel slowly.
      5. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        ITEMS CONDITION REFERENCE

        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Vehicle condition Driving at approx. 20 km/h (12 mph)

        OK: 

        The waveform is displayed as shown in  Fig 1 . 

        HINT:

        When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: RETURN TO THE ORIGINAL INSPECTION FOR OTHER SYSTEM 

  2. INSPECT ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the F2 connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F2-12 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V

      HINT:

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplied power to the combination meter, the combination meter will output a waveform.

    NG:  Go to step  5

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the A25 (*1) or A60 (*2) or A26 (*3) connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A25-23 (SP1) ((1)) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V
      A60-33 (SP1) ((2)) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V
      A26-12 (SP1) ((3)) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V
      (1) w/o VSC
      (2) w/ VSC for Bosch Made
      (3) w/ VSC for Advics Made

    NG:  Go to step  17

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Check the input waveform.
      1. Reconnect the A74 connector.
      2. Remove the combination meter assembly with connector(s) still connected.
      3. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals F2-14 (SI) and body ground.
      4. Ignition switch on (IG).
      5. Turn the wheel slowly.
      6. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        ITEMS CONDITION REFERENCE

        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Vehicle condition Driving at approx. 20 km/h (12 mph)

        OK: 

        The waveform is displayed as shown in  Fig 4 . 

        HINT:

    NG: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU 

    OK: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - NO. 3 JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the A No. 3 junction block connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F2-12 (+S) - 3P-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      F2-12 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 3 JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Inspect for a short in the circuit that connected the No. 3 junction block shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT:

      If voltage is not present, the circuit (ECU) was possibly the malfunctioning circuit. This is the circuit that will be diagnosed by following the A step that follows.

      1. Disconnect the B and C No. 3 junction block connectors.

      2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard voltage 

        VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        3B-10 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        3M-10 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        3O-10 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
      3. Reconnect the C No. 3 junction block connectors.

      4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard voltage 

        VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        3T-9 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        3U-9 ((1)1) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        3U-10 ((2)) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        (1) For Separate Type Amplifier System
        (2) with Navigation System

        Result 

        RESULT REFERENCE

        Result Proceed to
        Voltage is not present in one circuit, (without Smart Key System) A
        Voltage is not present in one circuit, (with Smart Key System) B
        Voltage is present in all the circuits. C

    B:  Go to step  13

    C: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (NO. 3 JUNCTION BLOCK) 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit in which is not present voltage in step  6.

      Result

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A24 (*1) or A55 (*2) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A24-8 (SPD) ((1)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A55-8 (SPD) ((2)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) For 2AZ-FE
      (2) for 2GR-FE

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE ECM 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TIRE PRESSURE WARNING ECU CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the E60 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E60-2 (SPD) ((1)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) With Tire Pressure Warning System

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING ECU 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F8 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F8-3 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NAVIGATION RECEIVER CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F13 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F13-3 (SPD) ((1)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) With Navigation System

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F19 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F19-11 (SPD) ((1)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) For Separate Type Amplifier System

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER 

  13. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit in which is not present voltage in step  6.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection System That Uses the Circuit Proceed to
      A55-8 (SPD) ((1)) - Body ground SFI System A
      C56-3 (SPD1) ((1)) - Body ground Automatic Transaxle System (for U660E) B
      E8-9 (SPD) ((2)) - Body ground Smart Key System (for 2GR-FE) C
      (1) For 2GR-FE
      (2) with Smart Key System

    B:  Go to step  15

    C:  Go to step  16

    A: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A55 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A55-8 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE ECM 

  15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the C56 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C56-3 (SPD1) ((1)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) For 2GR-FE

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE TCM 

  16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the E8 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E8-9 (SPD) ((1)) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) With Smart Key System

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU 

  17. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the F2 connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION
