Inspection Procedure
HINT:
- If DTC P0013 is displayed, check the exhaust camshaft circuit for the bank 1 VVT system.
- Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes cylinder No. 1.
- If DTC P0023 is displayed, check the exhaust camshaft circuit for the bank 2 VVT system.
- Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include cylinder No. 1.
- Read freeze frame data using Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATE OCV)
- Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and turn the tester on.
- Warm up the engine.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine/Active Test/Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2).
- Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the tester.
OK
ENGINE SPEED CONDITIONSTester Operation Specified Condition -128% (OCV OFF) Normal engine speed 127% (OCV ON) Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON) NG: Go to step 2
OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the OCV for exhaust camshaft connector.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the OCV.
Standard resistance
RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 6.9 to 7.9 Ω - Reconnect the OCV connector.
NG: Go to step 3
OK: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OCV - ECM)
- Disconnect the OCV for exhaust camshaft connector.
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Connection Specified Condition OE1+ (B50-16) - B43-1 Below 1 Ω OE1- (B50-17) - B43-2 Below 1 Ω OE2+ (B50-14) - B20-1 Below 1 Ω OE2- (B50-15) - B20-2 Below 1 Ω Standard resistance (Check for short)
RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Connection Specified Condition OE1+ (B50-16) or B43-1 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher OE1- (B50-17) or B43-2 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher OE2+ (B50-14) or B20-1 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher OE2- (B50-15) or B20-2 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Reconnect the OCV connector.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
