Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (OCV)
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the tester on.
    3. Warm up the engine.
    4. On the tester, enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine/Active Test/Control the VVT System (Bank 1) or Control the VVT System (Bank 2).
    5. Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the tester.

      OK

      ENGINE SPEED CONDITIONS

      Tester Operation Specified Condition
      OCV OFF Normal engine speed
OCV ON Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON)

OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (See  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS   )

      NG: Go to next step

  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
    1. Disconnect the OCV for intake camshaft connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the OCV.

      Standard resistance

      RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 6.9 to 7.9 Ω
    3. Reconnect the OCV connector.
