Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

      Combination Meter: 

      ACTIVE TEST DETAIL - COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range
      Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauger EMPTY, 1/2, FULL

      OK: 

      Needle indication is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Combination Meter: 

      DATA LIST - COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition
      Fuel Input Fuel Input signal Min.: 0, Max.: 127.5 Fuel gauge indicates (E): 7.5 (L)
      Fuel gauge indicates (1/2): 35.0 (L)
      Fuel gauge indicates (F): 62.9 (L)

      OK: 

      Fuel value signal displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the fuel sender gauge connector.
    3. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance between the terminals 1 and 2 of the connector according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Float level Float position mm (in.) Resistance (Ω)
      F 73.1 (2.88) +/- 3 (0.12) 13.5 to 16.5
      Between E and F 13.8 (0.54) +/- 3 (0.12) 13.5 to 414.5
      E 51.5 (2.03) +/- 3 (0.12) 405.5 to 414.5

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E3 and K7 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E3-15 (FUEL) - 2 Always Below 1 Ω
      E3-15 (FUEL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E3-16 (FE) - 1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E3-16 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK : REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
