Front Shock Absorber: Removal

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  2. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. LOOSEN FRONT SUPPORT TO FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER NUT 
    1. Loosen the front support to front shock absorber nut of the front shock absorber.
      NOTE:
      • Do not remove the front support to front shock absorber nut.
      • Loosen the nut only when the front shock absorber with coil spring needs to be disassembled.

  5. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 4 clamps and separate the wiper wire harness from the outer cowl top panel sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 8 bolts, 6 nuts, and the outer cowl top panel sub-assembly.

  8. SEPARATE FRONT SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Remove the bolt and clamp, and separate the front speed sensor and front flexible hose.

  9. SEPARATE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut and separate the front stabilizer link assembly from the front shock absorber.

      HINT:

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon wrench (6 mm) to hold the stud.

  10. REMOVE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING 
    1. Support the front axle using a jack and wooden block.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts, and separate the front shock absorber with coil spring (lower side) from the steering knuckle.
      NOTE: When removing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.

    3. Remove the nut and 2 spacers on the upper side of the front shock absorber with coil spring.
      NOTE: Make sure that the front speed sensor is completely separated from the front shock absorber with coil spring.

  11. SECURE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING 
    1. As shown below, secure the front shock absorber with coil spring in a vise using aluminum plates by clamping onto a double nutted bolt affixed to the bracket at the bottom of the absorber.

  12. REMOVE FRONT SUPPORT TO FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER NUT 
    1. Using SST, compress the front coil spring.

      SST 09727-30021 (09727-00010, 09727-00031), 09727-00050 

      NOTE: Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage the SST.

      HINT:

      If the front coil spring is compressed at an angle, using 2 SST will make the work easier.

    2. Check that the front coil spring is fully compressed.
    3. Remove the front support to front shock absorber nut.

  13. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  14. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION SUPPORT BEARING 
  15. REMOVE FRONT COIL SPRING UPPER SEAT 
  16. REMOVE FRONT COIL SPRING UPPER INSULATOR 
  17. REMOVE FRONT COIL SPRING 
  18. REMOVE FRONT SPRING BUMPER 
  19. REMOVE FRONT COIL SPRING LOWER INSULATOR
