Front Brake Pad, Brake Caliper & Brake Rotor: Disassembly

  1. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD 
    1. Remove the 2 anti-squeal springs.

    2. Remove the 2 brake pads from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  2. REMOVE FRONT ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM 
    1. Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators from the pads.
  3. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE 
    1. Remove the 4 front disc brake pad support plates from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
      NOTE: Each front disc brake pad support plate has a different shape. Be sure to put an identification mark on each front disc brake pad support plate so that they can be reinstalled to their original position.

  4. REMOVE NO. 1 FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN 
    1. Remove the No. 1 front disc brake cylinder slide pin from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  5. REMOVE NO. 2 FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN 
    1. Remove the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSHING 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing from the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
      NOTE: Do not damage the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  7. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BUSHING DUST BOOT 
    1. Remove the 2 front disc brake bushing dust boots from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  8. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder mounting from the steering knuckle.

  9. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PISTON 
    1. Place a shop rag or a piece of cloth between the disc brake pistons and the disc brake cylinder assembly.
    2. Using compressed air, remove one of the disc brake pistons from the disc brake cylinder assembly.
      CAUTION: Do not place your fingers in front of the front disc brake piston when using compressed air.
      NOTE: Do not allow any brake fluid to spatter.

  10. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 cylinder boots.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the front disc brake cylinder.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  11. REMOVE PISTON SEAL 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 piston seals from the disc brake cylinder assembly.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the inner cylinder or cylinder groove.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  12. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP 
  13. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG 
  14. REMOVE FRONT DISC 
    1. Remove the front disc.

      HINT:

      Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.
