Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTC is output (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

      Result 

      RESULT TABLE

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output. A
      CAN communication DTC is output. B

    B: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

      Combination Meter: 

      ACTIVE TEST TABLE

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge EMPTY, 1/2, FULL -

      OK: Needle indication is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Combination Meter: 

      DATA LIST TABLE

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input signal Min. 0, Max 127.5 Fuel gauge indicates (E) 7.5 (L)
      Fuel gauge indicates (1/2) 35.0 (L)
      Fuel gauge indicates (F) 62.9 (L)

      OK: Fuel value signal displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E1 and fuel sender gauge assembly connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E1-34 (FR) - 2 Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-19 (FE) - 1 Always Below 1 Ω
      2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E1-34 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the fuel sender gauge connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals 1 and 2 of the connector according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Float Level Resistance (Ω)
      F 3.0 to 5.0
      Between E and F 3.0 to 111.0 (Gradually changes)
      E 109.0 to 111.0

    3. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly (See REMOVAL ).
    4. Check that the float moves smoothly between F and E.
    5. Check the fuel sender gauge if there is deformation in the arm.

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new one or a normal one (See REMOVAL  ).

      OK: The operation of the combination meter assembly returns to normal. 

    NG: REPLACE ECM (for 2GR-FE)  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: END
