Inspection Procedure

HINT:

If there is an open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit, the ECM outputs the DTCs.

Perform troubleshooting with the "SFI System" (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE for 2GR-FE ).

1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
   1. Check if CAN communication DTC is output (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

      Result

      CAN communication DTC is not output.	A
      CAN communication DTC is output.	B

   B: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

   A: Go to next step 

2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM 
   1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
   2. Ignition switch on (IG).
   3. Turn the tester on.
   4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
   5. Check the operation by referring to the values in the table below.

      Combination Meter:

      OK: Needle indication is normal. 

   NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

   OK: Go to next step 

3. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM 
   1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
   2. Ignition switch on (IG).
   3. Turn the tester on.
   4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.

      Combination Meter: 

      DATA LIST

      OK: Engine coolant temperature value displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication. 

   NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

   OK: Go to next step 

4. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM 
   1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
   2. Ignition switch on (IG).
   3. Turn the tester on.
   4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
   5. Check the values by referring to the values in the table below.

      Engine and ECT:

      OK: Engine coolant temperature value displayed on the tester is almost the same as actual engine coolant temperature. 

   NG: REPLACE ECM (for 2GR-FE)  (See REMOVAL )

   OK: Go to next step 

5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
   1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or a normal one (See REMOVAL  ).

      OK: The operation of the combination meter assembly returns to normal. 

   NG: REPLACE ECM (for 2GR-FE)  (See REMOVAL )

   OK: END
