Inspection Procedure

HINT:

When using the intelligent tester, start from 1. When not using the intelligent tester, start from 2.

READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (L4 POSITION SWITCH)
1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the intelligent tester main switch ON.
3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the intelligent tester.
4. Check the L4 position switch condition displayed on the intelligent tester when shifting the transfer shift lever in L4 and H4 positions.
  OK:
  
  When the transfer shift lever is shifted in L4 position:
  
  ON is displayed for the L4 position switch condition.
  
  When the transfer shift lever is shifted in H4 position:
  
  OFF is displayed for the L4 position switch condition.
NG: Go to step 3

OK: REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU

CHECK SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU

Remove the suspension control ECU with connectors still connected.
Turn the ignition switch ON.

Measure the voltage between terminal L4SW of the suspension control ECU connector and body ground when the transfer shift lever is shifted in L4 and H4 position.

Standard voltage

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

Tester Connection	Transfer Shift Lever Position	Specified Condition
S21-12 (L4SW) - Body ground	L4	Below 1.5 V
S21-12 (L4SW) - Body ground	H4	9 to 14 V

OK: REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU

NG: GO TO NEXT STEP

INSPECT L4 POSITION SWITCH

Disconnect the L4 position switch connector.
Remove the L4 position switch (see TRANSFER ASSEMBLY ).

Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the L4 position switch connector when the L4 position switch pushed and released.

Standard resistance

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
1 - 2	Pushed	Below 1 Ω
1 - 2	Released	10 kΩ or higher

NG: REPLACE L4 POSITION SWITCH

OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

CHECK WIRE HARNESS (L4 POSITION SWITCH - SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU)
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

OK: REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU
