Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK DRIVER SIDE SQUIB (2ND STEP) CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the steering wheel pad.
    4. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery and wait at least for 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage between the body ground and D2+ of the black connector on the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) side between the center airbag sensor and the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)).

      Standard voltage: Below 1 V

    NG: Go to step   4 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.
    2. Using a service wire, connect D2+ and D2- of the black connector on the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) side between the center airbag sensor and the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)).
    3. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait at least for 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTC stored in memory (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
    8. Check the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      OK: DTC B1183/22 is not output. 

      HINT:

      Codes other than code B1183/22 may be output at this time, but they are not relevant to this check.

    NG: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. CHECK DRIVER SIDE SQUIB (2ND STEP) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait at least for 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) to the spiral cable.
    4. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait at least for 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
    6. Clear the DTC stored in memory (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
    8. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
    9. Check the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      OK: DTC B1183/22 is not output. 

      HINT:

      Codes other than code B1183/22 may be output at this time, but they are not relevant to this check.

    NG: REPLACE STEERING WHEEL PAD (DRIVER SIDE SQUIB (2ND STEP)) 

    OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

  4. CHECK SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait at least for 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the spiral cable connector from the column wire.
    4. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait at least for 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage between the body ground and D2+ of the black spiral cable connector on the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) side.

      Standard voltage: Below 1 V

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  5. CHECK COLUMN WIRE 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait at least for 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the column wire connector from the dash wire.
    4. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait at least for 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage between the body ground and D2+ of the A28 column wire connector on the spiral cable side.

      Standard voltage: Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COLUMN WIRE 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  6. CHECK DASH WIRE 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Measure the voltage between the body ground and D2+ of the II4 dash wire connector on the column wire side.

      Standard voltage: Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE DASH WIRE 

    OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
