Inspection Procedure
- CHECK CONNECTOR
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
- Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
- Disconnect the connectors from the steering wheel pad.
- Check that the black spiral cable connector is not damaged.
OK: The lock button is not disengaged, or the claw of the lock is not deformed or damaged.
NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK DRIVER SIDE SQUIB (2ND STEP) CIRCUIT
- Disconnect the connector from the center airbag sensor.
- Release the airbag activation prevention mechanism built in the connector on the center airbag senor side between the airbag sensor assembly and the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) (see DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
- Measure the resistance between D2+ and D2- of the black connector on the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) side between the center airbag senor and the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)).
Standard resistance: 1 MΩ or higher
NG: Go to step 5
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
- Connect the connector to the center airbag senor.
- Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait at least for 2 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
- Clear the DTC stored in memory (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait at least for 10 seconds.
- Check the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR
).
OK: DTC B1180/17 is not output.
HINT:
Codes other than code B1180/17 may be output at this time, but they are not relevant to this check.
NG: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK DRIVER SIDE SQUIB (2ND STEP)
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
- Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait at least for 90 seconds.
- Connect the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) to the spiral cable.
NG: REPLACE STEERING WHEEL PAD (DRIVER SIDE SQUIB (2ND STEP))
OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
- CHECK SPIRAL CABLE
- Disconnect the spiral cable connector from the column wire.
- Release the airbag activation prevention mechanism built in the spiral cable connector on the center airbag senor side (see DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
- Measure the resistance between D2+ and D2- of the black spiral cable connector on the steering wheel pad (driver side squib (2nd step)) side.
Standard resistance: 1 MΩ or higher
NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK COLUMN WIRE
- Release the airbag activation prevention mechanism built in the column wire connector on the center airbag sensor side (see DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
- Measure the resistance between D2+ and D2- of the A28 column wire connector on the spiral cable side.
Standard resistance: 1 MΩ or higher
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COLUMN WIRE
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK DASH WIRE
- Release the airbag activation prevention mechanism built in the connector of the dash wire on the center airbag senor side (see DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
- Measure the resistance between D2+ and D2- of the II4 dash wire connector on the column wire side.
Standard resistance: 1 MΩ or higher
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE DASH WIRE
OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
