Rear Axle Shaft: Disassembly

REMOVE BEARING ABS SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
1. Attach 4 nuts to the serration bolts and using a hammer, tap out the serration bolts from the backing plate.
  NOTE: Do not reuse the nuts previously removed from the vehicle.

2. Grind the retainer and sensor rotor surfaces using a grinder, then pry them out with a chisel and hammer.
REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT SNAP RING
1. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the axle shaft.

REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT
1. Attach 4 washers and nut to the serration bolts, then torque the nuts to install the serration bolts to the backing plate.
2. Remove the 4 nuts and washers from the serration bolts.

3. Position SST on the backing plate with the 4 nuts.
  SST 09521-25011, 09521-25023
4. Using a press, remove the axle shaft, bearing retainer and plate washer from the backing plate.
5. Remove the SST.

REMOVE OIL DEFLECTOR
1. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap out the 5 hub bolts, oil deflector and gasket.

REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT OUTER OIL SEAL
1. Using SST, tap out the oil seal.

REMOVE REAR AXLE BEARING CASE
1. Attach 4 nuts to the serration bolts and remove the serration bolts and bearing case from the backing plate using a hammer.
  NOTE: Do not reuse the nuts previously removed from the vehicle.

REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING
1. Using SST and a press, press out the bearing.
  SST 09950-60020 (09951-00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)
