Rear Propeller Shaft Assembly: Removal

REMOVE REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
1. Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and transfer.
2. Remove the 4 nuts and 4 washers.

3. Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and rear differential.
4. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 washers.
5. Remove the rear propeller shaft.

INSPECT REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
1. Using a dial indicator, measure the propeller shaft runout.
  Maximum runout:
  
  0.8 mm (0.031 in.)
  
  If the shaft runout is greater than the maximum, replace the shaft.

INSPECT SPIDER BEARING
NOTE: Be careful not to grip the propeller shaft tube too tightly in a vise as this will cause deformation.
1. Check the spider bearings for wear or damage.
2. Check each spider bearing's axial play by turning the yoke while holding the shaft tightly.
  Maximum bearing axial play:
  
  0 mm (0 in.)
  
  If the axial play is greater than the maximum, replace the spider bearing.
