On-Vehicle Inspection

CHECK REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING
1. Remove the rear wheel.
2. Remove the rear disc brake cylinder (see REASSEMBLY ).
3. Remove the rear disc.
4. Inspect the axle shaft backlash.
  1. Using a dial indicator, measure the backlash near the center of the axle shaft.
    Maximum backlash:
    
    0.06 mm (0.0024 in.)
    
    If the backlash is greater than the maximum, replace the bearing.

5. Inspect the axle shaft deviation.
  1. Using a dial indicator, measure the deviation at the surface of the axle shaft.
    Maximum deviation:
    
    0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)
    
    If the deviation is greater than the maximum, replace the bearing.
