Inspection Procedure

HINT:

• Read freeze frame data using Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
• The throttle actuator current (Throttle Motor Current) and the throttle actuator duty ratio (Throttle Motor Open Duty / Throttle Motor Close Duty) can be read using Techstream. However, the ECM shuts off the throttle actuator current when the ETCS malfunctions.

1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY (RESISTANCE OF THROTTLE ACTUATOR) 
   1. Disconnect the B3 throttle body connector.

   2. Measure the resistance of the throttle actuator.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION
      
      

      Tester Connections	Specified Conditions
      2 (M+) - 1 (M-)	0.3 to 100 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

   3. Reconnect the throttle body connector.

   NG: REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 

   OK: Go to Next Step 

2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THROTTLE ACTUATOR - ECM) 
   1. Disconnect the B3 throttle body connector.

   2. Disconnect the B30 ECM connector.
   3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION
      
      

      Tester Connections	Specified Conditions
      B3-2 (M+) - B30-42 (M+)	Below 1 Ω
      B3-1 (M-) - B30-41 (M-)	Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION
      
      

      Tester Connections	Specified Conditions
      B3-2 (M+) or B30-42 (M+) - Body ground	10 kΩ or higher
      B3-1 (M-) or B30-41 (M-) - Body ground	10 kΩ or higher

   4. Reconnect the throttle body connector.
   5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

   NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

   OK: Go to Next Step 

3. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
   1. Check for foreign objects between the throttle valve and the housing.

      OK: No foreign objects between throttle valve and housing. 

   NG: REMOVE FOREIGN OBJECT AND CLEAN THROTTLE BODY 

   OK: Go to Next Step 

4. INSPECT THROTTLE VALVE 
   1. Check if the throttle valve opens and closes smoothly.

      OK: Throttle valve opens and closes smoothly. 

   NG: REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 

   OK: REPLACE ECM
