Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3)
    1. Disconnect the B32 wire connector.

    3. Measure the resistance of the transmission wire.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (SL3+) - 11 (SL3-) 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
      4 (SL3+) - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 10 kΩ or higher
      11 (SL3-) - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 10 kΩ or higher

    NG:  Go to step  3

    OK: Go to next step

  2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (TRANSMISSION WIRE - ECM)
    1. Disconnect the B30 ECM connector.
    2. Fig 2: Identifying B30 ECM Connector

    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B30-14 (SL3+) - B30-15 (SL3-) 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
      B30-14 (SL3+) - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 10 kΩ or higher
      B30-1S (SL3-) - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 10 kΩ or higher

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK: REPLACE ECM

  3. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SL3.
    2. Fig 3: Identifying Shift Solenoid Valve SL3

    3. Measure the resistance of the solenoid valve.

      Standard resistance:

      5.0 to 5.6 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

    4. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating noise.

      OK:

Valve moves and makes operating noise.

NG: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3

OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE
