Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Perform the simulation method by selecting the "CHECK MODE" (signal check) with the Techstream (see CHECK MODE PROCEDURE ).
After selecting the "CHECK MODE" (signal check), perform the simulation method by wiggling each connector of the airbag system or driving the vehicle on a city or rough road (see CHECK MODE PROCEDURE ).

CHECK FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY RH (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FRONT PRETENSIONER SQUIB)
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
3. Disconnect the connectors from the front seat outer belt RH.

4. Connect SST (resistance 2.1 Ω) to connector C.
  CAUTION: Never connect a tester to the front seat outer belt RH (front passenger side front pretensioner squib) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.
  NOTE:
  - Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.
  - Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.

5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
6. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
7. Clear the DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
9. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
10. Check the DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
  OK:
  
  DTC B1905, B1906, B1907, B1908 or 74 is not output.
  
  HINT:
  
  DTCs other than DTC B1905, B1906, B1907, B1908 or 74 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
OK: REPLACE FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY RH

NG: Go to next step
CHECK CONNECTOR
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
3. Disconnect SST from connector C.
4. Check that the floor wire No. 2 connector (on the front seat outer belt RH side) is not damaged.
  OK:
  
  Lock button is not disengaged, or the claw of the lock is not deformed or damaged.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2

OK: Go to next step

CHECK FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FRONT PRETENSIONER SQUIB CIRCUIT)

Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.

Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

Standard voltage

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

Tester Connection	Specified Condition
L9-1 (R-) - Body ground	Below 1 V
L9-2 (R+) - Body ground	Below 1 V

Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

Standard resistance

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

Tester Connection	Specified Condition
L9-1 (R-) - L9-2 (R+)	Below 1 Ω
L9-1 (R-) - Body ground	1 MΩ or higher
L9-2 (R+) - Body ground	1 MΩ or higher

Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B (see DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

Standard resistance

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

L9-1 (R-) - L9-2 (R+)	1 MΩ or higher

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2

OK: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
