Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR DTC (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Clear the DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

    3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    4. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Check for DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      OK: 

      DTC B1650/32 is not output. 

      HINT:

      DTCs other than B1650/32 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    NG: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR DTC (OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 10 seconds.
    2. Using the Techstream, check for DTCs of the occupant classification ECU (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      OK: 

      DTC is not output. 

    NG: GO TO  DTC CHART 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the occupant classification ECU.

      OK: 

      The connectors are properly connected. 

    NG: CONNECT CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 (OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and occupant classification ECU.
    2. Using a service wire, connect L1-8 (FSR+) and L1-4 (FSR-) of connector C.
      NOTE: Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      L7-16 (FSP+) - L7-24 (FSP-) Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
    2. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      L7-16 (FSP+) - L7-24 (FSP-) 1 MΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 (TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      L7-16 (FSP+) - Body ground Below 1 V
      L7-24 (FSP-) - Body ground Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 (TO GROUND) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      L7-16 (FSP+) - Body ground 1 MΩ or higher
      L7-24 (FSP-) - Body ground 1 MΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the center airbag sensor (see REMOVAL  ).

      HINT:

      Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle when possible.

    2. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    7. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      OK: 

      DTC B1650/32 is not output. 

      HINT:

      DTCs other than B1650/32 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    NG: Go to next step 

  9. REPLACE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Replace the occupant classification ECU (see REMOVAL  ).
  10. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Using the Techstream, perform the zero point calibration (see INITIALIZATION  ).

      OK: 

      "Zero Point Calibration is complete." is displayed on the tester. 

  11. PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK 
    1. Using the Techstream, perform the sensitivity check (see INITIALIZATION  ).

      Standard value: 

      27 to 33 kg (59.52 to 72.75 lb)
