Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the values in the table below.

      Combination Meter: 

      CONTROL RANGE CHART

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Water Temperature Meter Operation Engine coolant temperature receiver gauge Low, Normal, Hi -

      OK: 

      Needle indication is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE OF DATA LIST (COOLANT TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Combination Meter: 

      MEASUREMENT ITEM/RANGE CHART

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Coolant Temperature Engine coolant temperature/Min.: 0°C (32°F), Max.: 127.5°C (261.5°F) After warming up: 80 to 100°C (176 to 212°F)
      • If-40°C (-40°F): Sensor circuit open
      • If 140°C (284°F) or more: Sensor circuit shorted

      OK: 

      Engine coolant temperature value displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK:GO TO  SFI SYSTEM
