FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD): Disassembly

1. One touch type:

   Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 2 inboard joint boot clamp, as shown in Fig 1.

2. Claw engagement type:

   Using needle-nose pliers, remove the No. 2 inboard joint boot clamp, as shown.

1. One touch type:

   Using a screwdriver, remove the inboard joint boot clamp, as shown in Fig 2.

2. Claw engagement type:

   Using needle-nose pliers, remove the inboard joint boot clamp, as shown.

1. Remove the boot from the inboard joint.

1. Remove any old grease from the inboard joint.
2. Put matchmarks on the inboard joint and outboard joint shaft, see Fig 3.
   NOTE: Do not punch the marks.
3. Remove the inboard joint from the outboard joint shaft.

4. Using a snap ring expander, remove the shaft snap ring.

5. Put matchmarks on the outboard joint shaft and tripod joint.

   NOTE: Do not punch the marks.
6. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap out the tripod joint from the outboard joint shaft.
   NOTE: Do not tap the rollers.
7. Remove the inboard joint boot.

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

   Using a screwdriver, remove the drive shaft damper clamp, as shown in Fig 6.

2. Claw engagement type:

   Using needle-nose pliers, remove the drive shaft damper clamp, as shown.

1. Remove the front drive shaft damper.

1. Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 2 outboard joint boot clamp, as shown.

1. Using a screwdriver, remove the outboard joint boot clamp, as shown in the illustration.

1. Remove the outboard joint boot from the outboard joint shaft.
2. Remove any old grease from the outboard joint.

1. Using a screwdriver, remove the hole snap ring.

1. Using SST and a press, press out the front drive shaft dust cover.

   SST 09950-00020 

   NOTE: Be careful not to drop the inboard joint.

1. Using a snap ring expander, remove the drive shaft hole snap ring.

2. Using SST and a press, press out the drive shaft bearing.

3. Remove the bearing bracket snap ring.
