Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SENSOR POWER SOURCE) 
    1. Disconnect the C31 camshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between terminal 3 of the camshaft position sensor connector and body ground.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      C31-3 - Body ground 4.5 to 5.0 V
    4. Reconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO TO Next Step 

  2. CHECK ECM TERMINAL VOLTAGE 
    1. Inspect the ECM using an oscilloscope.

    1. While the engine is idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the ECM connector.

    Standard voltage 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    E7-19 (G2+) - E7-29 (G2-) Correct waveform is as shown

    HINT:

    • *1: Crank angle
    • *2: 180°
    • *3: 120°
    • *4: 60°

    OK: REPLACE ECM

    NG: GO TO Next Step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Check harness and connector (see ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: GO TO Next Step 

  4. INSPECT SENSOR INSTALLATION 
    1. Check the camshaft position sensor installation.

    OK: The camshaft position sensor is installed properly. 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE SENSOR

    OK: GO TO Next Step 

  5. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEY LH (SIGNAL PLATE TOOTH) 

    NG: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEY LH 

    OK: REPLACE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
