Inspection Procedure

HINT:

If DTC P0340 is displayed, check the left bank VVT sensor.
If DTC P0345 is displayed, check the right bank VVT sensor.
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

INSPECT VVT SENSOR (RESISTANCE)

Disconnect the C34 and C35 VVT sensor connectors.
Measure the resistance of the VVT sensor.
Standard resistance

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
1 - 2	Cold	835 to 1,400 Ω
1 - 2	Hot	1,060 to 1,645 Ω

NOTE: In the above chart, the terms "cold" and "hot" refer to the temperature of the coils.

"Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F).

"Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F).

NG: REPLACE VVT SENSOR

OK: GO TO Next Step

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VVT SENSOR - ECM)
1. Check harness and connector (see ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK: GO TO Next Step
CHECK SENSOR INSTALLATION (VVT SENSOR)
1. Check the sensor installation.
  OK: Sensor is installed correctly.
NG: SECURELY REINSTALL SENSOR

OK: GO TO Next Step
CHECK CAMSHAFT (TOOTH)
1. Remove the cylinder head cover (see REMOVAL ).
2. Check the tooth of the camshaft.
NG: REPLACE CAMSHAFT

OK: REPLACE ECM
