Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT FUSE (TAIL) 
    1. Remove the TAIL fuse from the main body ECU.
    2. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance: 

      Below 1 Ω 

    3. Reinstall the TAIL fuse.

    NG: REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUSE (TAIL) - RHEOSTAT, RHEOSTAT - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the E4 light control rheostat connector.

    3. Measure the voltage and resistance.

      Standard 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E4-4 (T) - Body ground Tail light ON 11 to 14V
      E4-5 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the light control rheostat connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
    1. Remove the light control rheostat but without disconnecting the connector.

    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    4. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform of the light control rheostat.
      ITEM CONTENTS

      Item Contents
      Terminal connection E4-3 (-) - Body ground
      Tool setting 5 V / DIV, 50 ms / DIV
      Vehicle condition Ignition switch ON

      OK: 

      Waveform is as shown in the illustration. 

      HINT:

      Duty ratio changes as the illumination dims. (A becomes longer)

    5. Reinstall the light control rheostat.

    NG: REPLACE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - A@LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT) 
    1. Disconnect the E13 combination meter assembly connector.

    3. Disconnect the E4 light control rheostat connector.
    4. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E13-11 (ILL-) - E4-3 (-) Below 1 Ω
    5. Reconnect the combination meter assembly connector.
    6. Reconnect the light control rheostat connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
