Power Steering Gear: Installation

  1. INSTALL POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the power steering link assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)

      NOTE: Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
  2. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 

    HINT:

    Refer to the instructions for installation of the engine assembly (See INSTALLATION ).

  3. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the tie rod assembly (LH side) to the steering knuckle with the castle nut.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Install a new cotter pin.
      NOTE: Further tighten the nut up to 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.
    3. Connect the RH side by using the same procedure as for the LH side.
  4. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    3. Install the clamp to the steering column hole shield and tighten the bolt.

  5. CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  6. CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.2 
  8. INSTALL FRONT WHEELS 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  10. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  11. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT 

    (See FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT )

  12. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal (See INITIALIZATION ).
  13. INITIALIZE ROTATION ANGLE SENSOR AND CALIBRATE TORQUE SENSOR ZERO POINT
