Power Steering Gear: Inspection
- INSPECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
- Secure the tie rod assembly (LH side) in a vise.
- Install the nut to the stud bolt.
- Flip the ball joint back and forth 5 times or more.
- Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Turning torque:
0.49 to 3.43 N*m (5.0 to 35.0 kgf*cm, 4.3 to 30.4 in.*lbf)
If turning torque is not within the specified range, replace the tie rod assembly (LH side).
- Inspect the RH side by using the same procedure as for the LH side.
- INSPECT TOTAL PRELOAD
- Temporarily install the left and right steering rack ends to prevent steering rack over stroke.
- Using SST and a torque wrench, inspect total preload.
SST 09616-00011
Preload (turning):
1.0 to 2.0 N*m (10.2 to 20.4 kgf*cm, 8.9 to 17.7 in.*lbf)
If turning torque is not as specified, replace the power steering link assembly.
- INSPECT POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (TORQUE SENSOR)
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
