Front Axle Hub: Installation

  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING 
    1. Using SST and a press, install a new front axle hub bearing to the steering knuckle.

      SST 09950-60020 (09951 -00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)

  2. INSTALL FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY  (SeeREMOVAL )
  3. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER 
    1. Install the disc brake dust cover to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf) 

  4. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST and a press, install the front axle hub sub-assembly.

      SST 09608-32010, 09950-60020 (09951-00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)

  5. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING 
    1. Using snap ring pliers, install a new front axle hub hole snap ring.

  6. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR NO.1 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, install the bearing dust deflector No. 1.

      SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011,09316-00031), 09608-32010

      HINT:

      Align the hole for the speed sensor in the bearing dust deflector No.1 with the steering knuckle.

  7. INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front axle assembly to the front drive shaft assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the outboard joint boot and speed sensor rotor.
      • Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor rotor.
    2. Install the front axle assembly to the front shock absorber assembly with the 2 bolts and nuts.

      Torque: 290 N*m (3,000 kgf*cm, 217 ft.*lbf)

      HINT:

      Insert the bolt from the front side of the vehicle and tighten the nut.

  8. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1  (SeeINSTALLATION )
  9. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the tie rod end to the steering knuckle with the nut.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Install a new cotter pin.
      NOTE: If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the castle nut up to 60° further.
  10. INSTALL FRONT DISC  (See REASSEMBLY )
  11. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the steering knuckle.

      Torque: 104 N*m (1,060 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf)

  12. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR  (See INSTALLATION )
  13. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT 
    1. Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new axle hub nut.

      Torque: 294 N*m (3,000 kgf*cm, 217 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.
  14. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the front disc brake caliper assembly.

      NOTE: Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
  15. REMOVE FRONT DISC  (See REASSEMBLY )
  16. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  17. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  18. INSTALL FRONT DISC  (See REASSEMBLY )
  19. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the steering knuckle.

      Torque: 104 N*m (1,060 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf)

  20. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT 
    1. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the axle hub nut.

  21. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  22. ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT 

    (See FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT )

  23. CHECK SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL 

    (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE )
