Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step 2 when not using the hand-held tester.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER(ABS MOTOR RELAY) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check the operation sound of the ABS motor individually when operating it with the hand-held tester.
      ACTIVE TEST

      Item Vehicle Condition / Test Details Diagnostic Note
      ABS MOT RELAY Turns ABS motor relay ON/OFF Operation sound of motor can be heard

      OK: The operation sound of the ABS motor should be heard. 

    1. NG: Go to step 2 
    2. OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  2. INSPECT FUSE (ABS NO.2 FUSE) 
    1. Remove the ABS No.2 fuse from the engine room R/B.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in ABS NO. 2 FUSE RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      ABS NO. 2 FUSE RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      ABS No.2 fuse Below 1 Ω (Continuity)

    1. NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESS AND CONNECTOR CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (+BM TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR TERMINALS VOLTAGE  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR TERMINALS VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S1-31 (+BM)-Body ground Always 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR(+BM CIRCUIT) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (GND TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR TERMINALS RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR TERMINALS RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-32 (GND2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR(GND CIRCUIT) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  5. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
    2. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 4 mph (6 km/h) or more.
    3. Are the same DTCs recorded?

      HINT:

      The skid control ECU inspects the motor relay circuit when the stop lamp switch is turned off and the vehicle is running at a speed of 4 mph (6 km/h) or more.

    1. NO: END 

      HINT:

      These DTCs may be memorized due to a malfunction in the connector terminal connection, etc.

    2. YES: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  )
