Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK SYSTEM 
    SYSTEM CHECK

    Light illumination level does not change A
    Tail cancel switch does not operate. B
    Light illumination level does not change and tail cancel switch does not operate. A
    1. B: Go to step   5 
    2. A: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT (TAIL, +B, GND) 
    1. Disconnect the R7 connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      R7-2 - Body ground Headlight Dimmer Switch OFF --> TAIL Below 1 V --> 10 to 14 V
      R7-6 - Body ground Always 10 to V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      R7-3 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    1. NG; REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT (TC, LED) 
    1. Check signal wave form.
      1. Remove the light control rheostat with connector still connected.
      2. Check the signal wave form according to the condition (s) in the table below.

        Standard: 

        ITEM CONTENTS

        Item Contents
        Tool setting 2 V/DIV, 1 ms/DIV
        Vehicle condition Ignition switch ON

        HINT: Duty ratio changes as illumination becomes darker ("A" becomes longer).

      3. Disconnect the R7 connector.
      4. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

        Standard: 

        TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
        R7-2 - R7-8 Tail cancel position (rheostat knob is fully turned up) --> Non-tail cancel position 10 kΩ or higher --> Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT - COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the C9, C16 and R7 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      C9-28 - R7-5 Always Below 1 Ω
      C16-9 - R7-8 Always Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

      REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  COMBINATION METER ASSY  ) 

  5. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
    1. Disconnect the R7 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      R7-2 - R7-8 Tail cancel position (rheostat knob is fully turned up) --> Non-tail cancel position 10 kΩ or higher --> Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT - COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the C19 and R7 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      C16-9 - R7-8 Always Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

      REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  COMBINATION METER ASSY  )
