Transmission Control Cable ASSY (MTM): Replacement

REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT ASSY (see OVERHAUL )
HINT:

Refer to the instructions for removal of the air conditioner unit assy.
SEPARATE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER
1. Remove the 3 bolts, and separate the airbag sensor assy center.
REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY
- 1ZZ-FE engine type: (see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION AND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY )
- 2ZZ-GE engine type: (see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION AND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY )
REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
1. Remove the 3 nuts and heat insulator No.1.
SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT
1. Remove the clip and separate the end of the shift cable from the shift lever assy.

2. Using a screwdriver, release the cable outer spring.
3. Turn the lock, and separate the shift cable from the shift lever retainer.

SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT
1. Remove the clip and separate the end of the select cable from the shift lever assy.

2. Using a screwdriver, release the cable outer spring.
3. Turn the lock, and separate the select cable from the shift lever retainer.

REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY
1. Remove the 2 clips and 2 washers, and separate the top of the control cable assy from the transaxle.
2. Remove the 2 clips, and separate the control cable assy from the control cable bracket.

3. Remove the 2 nuts and clamp.

4. Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
5. Pull out the control cable assy from the floor.

6. Remove the retainer from the grommet.
7. Remove the control cable assy from the grommet.

INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY
1. Install the control cable assy to the grommet.
2. Install the retainer to the grommet.
  NOTE: Fit the 4 projections of the grommet into the 4 holes of the retainer.

3. Install the control cable assy with the 2 bolts.
  Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in..lbf)

4. Install the clamp with the 2 nuts.
  Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in..lbf)

5. Connect the control cable assy to the control cable bracket, and install 2 new clips.
6. Connect the control cable assy to the transaxle, and install the 2 washers and 2 clips.

CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT
1. Connect the end of the select cable and clip to the shift lever assy.

2. Connect the select cable to the retainer of the shift lever assy, and turn the lock.
  NOTE: The projecting part of the lock should face upward when the select cable is installed.
3. Install the cable outer spring to the lock.
NOTE: Make sure that after installation the cable outer spring is moved to the place shown in the illustration.

CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT
1. Connect the end of the shift cable and clip to the shift lever assy.

2. Connect the shift cable to the retainer of the shift lever assy, and turn the lock.
  NOTE: The projecting part of the lock should face upward when the shift cable is installed.
3. Install the cable outer spring to the lock.
NOTE: Make sure that after installation the cable outer spring is moved to the place shown in the illustration.

INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
1. Install the heat insulator No.1 with the 3 nuts.
  Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY
- 1ZZ-FE engine type: (see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION AND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY )
- 2ZZ-GE engine type: (see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION AND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY )
CONNECT AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER
1. Install the airbag sensor assy center with the 3 bolts.
  Torque: 18 N.m (180 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (SEE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES CHECK/CLEAR )
