Hand-held tester:
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER (CHECK CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY FOR VVTL)
- Connect a hand-held tester to the DLC 3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester ON.
- Start the engine and warm it up.
- On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / VVTL CTRL B1.
- Maintain the engine speed at between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm.
- Check the engine speed when operating the OCV (Oil Control Valve) for VVTL (Variable Valve Timing and Lift) using the tester.
OK:
VVTL system OFF (OCV: OFF): Normal engine speed
VVTL system ON (OCV: ON): Engine idles roughly or stalls
- NG: Go to step 4
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER (CHECK ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSY FOR VVTL)
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC 3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester ON.
- Start the engine and warm it up.
- On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / VVTL CTRL B1.
- Disconnect the oil pressure switch for VVTL connector.
- Maintain the engine speed at between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
- Check the resistance between the oil pressure switch and body ground when operating the OCV using the tester.
Standard:
VVTL ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSY INSPECTIONTester Operations Specified Conditions VVTL CTRL B1: OFF (OCV: OFF) 10 kΩ or higher VVTL CTRL B1: ON (OCV: ON) Below 1 Ω

- INSPECT OPERATION OF OCV (FOR VVTL)
- Start the engine.
- Check the engine speed twice in each of conditions (1) and (2), as described below:
- Disconnect the C2 camshaft timing OCV connector.
- Apply the positive battery voltage between the terminals of the camshaft timing OCV.
Result:
OCV (FOR VVTL) INSPECTION RESULTCondition (1) Condition (2) Proceed To Normal engine speed Engine idles roughly or stalls A Any results other than above Any results other than above B - Reconnect the camshaft timing OCV connector.
- B: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY
