Hand-held tester:

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER (CHECK CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY FOR VVTL)
    1. Connect a hand-held tester to the DLC 3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester ON.
    3. Start the engine and warm it up.
    4. On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / VVTL CTRL B1.
    5. Maintain the engine speed at between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm.
    6. Check the engine speed when operating the OCV (Oil Control Valve) for VVTL (Variable Valve Timing and Lift) using the tester.

      OK:

VVTL system OFF (OCV: OFF): Normal engine speed

VVTL system ON (OCV: ON): Engine idles roughly or stalls

    1. NG: Go to step   4
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER (CHECK ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSY FOR VVTL)
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC 3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester ON.
    3. Start the engine and warm it up.
    4. On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / VVTL CTRL B1.
    5. Disconnect the oil pressure switch for VVTL connector.
    6. Maintain the engine speed at between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
    7. Check the resistance between the oil pressure switch and body ground when operating the OCV using the tester.

      Standard:

VVTL ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSY INSPECTION

      Tester Operations Specified Conditions
VVTL CTRL B1: OFF (OCV: OFF) 10 kΩ or higher
