OBD II scan tool (excluding the hand-held tester):

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2444 AND/OR P2445) 
    1. Connect an OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the scan tool ON.
    3. Read DTCs using the scan tool.

      Result: 

      DTC OUTPUT RESULT

      Display (DTC output) Proceed To
      P2444 and/or P2445 A
      P2444 and/or P2445, and other DTCs B

      HINT:

      If any DTCs other than P2444 and/or P2445 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    1. B: GO TO  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  
    2. A: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK STORED DTCS 
    1. Connect the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the scan tool ON.
    3. Read DTC using the scan tool.
      DTC OUTPUT RESULT

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed To
      P2444 A
      P2445 B
    1. a: Go to step   8 
    2. B: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. CHECK VACUUM HOSE 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE VACUUM HOSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PIPING CONNECTIONS 
    1. Check that all the pipes and hoses between the air pump and the air switching are securely connected
    2. Inspect the pipe and hoses for blockages and damage.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PIPING 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. INSPECT AIR PUMP FUSE 
    1. Remove the AIR PUMP fuse from the engine room R/B.
    2. Check the AIR PUMP fuse resistance.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω 

    3. Reinstall the AIR PUMP fuse.

    1. NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO FUSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. CHECK AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE 
    1. Disconnect the A24 air pump relay connector.
    2. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 of the air pump relay connector and body ground.

      Standard: Between 9 V and 14 V 

    3. Reconnect the air pump relay connector.

    1. NG: REPAIR AIR PUMP POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY-BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the A22 air pump motor connector.
    2. Check the resistance.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY-BODY GROUND RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      Air pump motor (A22-3) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the air pump motor connector.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  8. CHECK AIR PUMP ASSY (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE  AIR PUMP ASSY (2ZZ-GE) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM-AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A24 air pump relay connector.
    2. Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.
    3. Check the resistance.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      ECM-AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      Air pump relay (A24-1) - AIRP (E6-5) Below 1 Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      ECM-AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      Air pump relay (A24-1) or AIRP (E6-5) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the air pump relay connector.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  10. INSPECT ECM (AIR VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect a pressure gauge to the pressure sensor as shown in the illustration.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (do not start the engine).
    3. Check that the voltage between terminals AIP and E2 of the ECM connectors varies when the pressure is applied to the pressure sensor using the pressure gauge.

    1. NG: REPLACE PRESSURE SENSOR (TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE ECM (See  ECM (1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE) REPLACEMENT  )
