OBD II scan tool (excluding the hand-held tester):

- CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2440 AND/OR P2441)
- Connect an OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the scan tool ON.
- Read DTCs using the scan tool.

If any DTCs other than P2440 and/or P2441 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

- CHECK STORED DTCS
- Connect the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the scan tool ON.

- a: Go to step 4
- B: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK AIR INJECTION SYSTEM NO.1 HOSE
- Check that air injection hose No.1 is securely connected to both the exhaust manifold and air switching valve.
- Inspect air injection hose No.1 for blockages and damage.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM NO.1 HOSE
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT VACUUM HOSE AND CHECK VALVE
- Check the connections of the vacuum hoses between each of the following:
- The pressure sensor and the air switching valve.
- The air switching valve and the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).
- The VSV and the intake manifold.
- Inspect each vacuum hose for blockages and damage.
- Check that the check valve is correctly installed.
- Check that air flows though the check valve from the VSV to the engine, but not in the opposite direction.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE VACUUM HOSE AND CHECK VALVE
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- Check the connections of the vacuum hoses between each of the following:
- INSPECT AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSY (See INSPECTION
)
- NG: REPLACE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSY
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSY (See INSPECTION
)
- NG: REPLACE VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSY
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM-VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE FOR SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM)
- Disconnect the V5 VSV connector.
- Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
ECM-VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE FOR SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLD RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connections Specified Conditions VSV (V5-2) - AIRV (E6-4) Below 1 Ω Standard (Check for short):
ECM-VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE FOR SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLD RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connections Specified Conditions VSV (V5-2) or AIRV (E6-4) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the VSV connector.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT ECM (AIR VOLTAGE)
- Connect a pressure gauge to the air pressure sensor as shown in the illustration.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (do not start engine).
- Check that the voltage between terminals AIP and E2 of the ECM connectors varies the when pressure is applied to the pressure sensor using the pressure gauge.
