OBD II scan tool (excluding the hand-held tester):

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0505) 
    1. Connect an OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the scan tool ON.
    3. Read DTCs using the scan tool.

      Result: 

      DTC OUTPUT RESULT

      Display (DTC output) Proceed To
      P0505 A
      P0511 and other DTCs B
    1. B: Go to step   6 
    2. A: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK PCV HOSE CONNECTIONS 

    OK: PCV hose is connected correctly and is not damaged. 

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE PCV HOSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. CHECK AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM 
    1. Check the air induction system for vacuum leakage.

      OK: No leakage from air induction system. 

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK A/C SIGNAL CIRCUIT (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. CHECK FOR BLOCKAGE IN IAC VALVE AND PASSAGE TO BYPASS THROTTLE VALVE 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - IAC VALVE, IAC VALVE - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the I1 Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between the terminals of the IAC valve wire harness side connector.

      Standard: 

      BATTERY - IAC VALVE, IAC VALVE - BODY GROUND VOLTAGE

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      VISC (I1-2) - GND (I1-3) 9 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the IAC valve connector.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IAC VALVE - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the I1 IAC valve connector.
    2. Disconnect the E3 ECM connector.
    3. Check the resistance.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      IAC VALVE - ECM RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      DUTY (I1-1) - RSO (E3-16) Below 1 Ω
      GND (I1-3) - E01 (E3-7) Below 1 Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      IAC VALVE - ECM RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      DUTY (I1-1) or RSO (E3-16) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reconnect the IAC valve connector.

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  8. INSPECT IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE (See  SFI SYSTEM (2ZZ-GE)  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE ECM (See  ECM (1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE) REPLACEMENT  )
