Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (RESISTANCE) 
    1. Disconnect the C3 Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2.

      Standard: 

      CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (RESISTANCE)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      1-2 Between 1,630 Ω and 2,740 Ω at cold
      1-2 Between 2,065 Ω and 3,225 Ω at hot
      NOTE: Terms cold and hot refer to the temperature of the coils. Cold means approximately-10° to 50°C (14° to 122°F). Hot means approximately 50° to 100°C (122° to 212°F).

    3. Reconnect the CKP sensor connector.
    1. NG: REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the C3 CKP sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the E3 ECM connector.
    3. Check the resistance.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester connections Specified Conditions
      NE+ (C3-1)-NE+ (E3-27) Below 1Ω
      NE- (C3-2) - NE- (E3-34) Below 1Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester connections Specified Conditions
      NE+ (C3-1) or NE+ (E3-27) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      NE- (C3-2) or NE- (E3-34) - Body ground 10kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  3. CHECK SENSOR INSTALLATION (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Check the CKP sensor installation.

      OK: Sensor is installed correctly. 

    1. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
    2. NG: SECURELY REINSTALL

  4. CHECK CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE (TEETH OF SENSOR PLATE) 
    1. Check the teeth of the sensor plate.

      OK: Sensor plate does not have any cracks or deformation. 

    1. NG: REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE ECM (See  ECM (1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE) REPLACEMENT  )
