OBD II scan tool (excluding the hand-held tester):

- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY (OPERATE OCV)
- Disconnect the C2 Oil Control Valve (OCV) connector.
- Apply positive battery voltage between the terminals of the OCV.
- Check the engine speed.
OK: Rough idling, or the engine stalls.
- Reconnect the OCV connector.
- NG: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT ECM (OCV SIGNAL)
- Inspect the ECM using an oscilloscope.
- While idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the E3 ECM connector.
Standard:
ECM (OCV SIGNAL) TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Connections Specified Conditions OC1 + (E3-14) - OC1 - (E3-13) Correct waveform is as shown
- NG: REPLACE ECM (See ECM (1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE) REPLACEMENT )
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) - ECM)
- Disconnect the C2 OCV connector.
- Disconnect the E3 ECM connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) - ECM RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connection Specified Condition Oil control valve (C2-1) - OC1 + (E3-14) Below 1 Ω Oil control valve (C2-2) - OC1 - (E3-13) Below 1 Ω Standard (Check for short):
CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) - ECM RESISTANCE (CHECK FOR SHORT)Tester Connection Specified Condition Oil control valve (C2-1) or OC1 + (E3-14) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher Oil control valve (C2-2) or OC1 - (E3-13) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the OCV connector.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
